Ranveer Singh ‘s upcoming film Pralay is all set to become India’s most expensive Mumbai based film ever. The post apocalyptic zombie thriller directed by Jai Mehta will transform the city into a futuristic zombieland using cutting edge AI driven visuals.
According to sources, the entire city’s landscape will be mapped to create a devastating post apocalypse scenario. The scale of destruction is being compared to international films like A Quiet Place and 28 Days Later.
Why Pralay Will Be So Expensive
Creating a post apocalyptic version of Mumbai is no small task. The makers will need to digitally recreate the entire city in a crumbling and decayed state. This requires extensive mapping of Mumbai’s landscape and then structuring the apocalyptic scenario accordingly.
The film will reportedly use AI driven visuals to bring this vision to life. This technology will help depict a realistic version of a destroyed Mumbai that Indian audiences have never witnessed on the big screen before.
Jai Mehta To Make Theatrical Directorial Debut
Pralay marks the theatrical directorial debut of Jai Mehta, son of acclaimed filmmaker Hansal Mehta. Jai is not new to direction as he previously co directed the hugely successful Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story and Lootere. He is known for his realistic storytelling style which makes him perfect for this dark project.
The film is being co produced by Hansal Mehta and Sameer Nair’s Applause Entertainment. This combination of talent adds significant weight to what is shaping up to be one of the most unconventional Hindi films in development.
A First For Indian Cinema
Zombie apocalypse narratives have remained largely unexplored in Indian mainstream cinema. While Go Goa Gone approached zombies with humor, Pralay is expected to adopt a much darker and more grounded tone.
The film will draw inspiration from international zombie thrillers like 28 Days Later, I Am Legend, and World War Z. This will be a fresh new genre experience for Indian audiences.
