Edmund McMillen and Tyler Glaiel’s cat-tastic roguelike tactics game Mewgenics is already a hit on PC, but what about a console release for Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5?
Years in the making, the new game from the creators of The Binding of Isaac, Super Meat Boy, and The End is Nigh has received rave reviews and enjoyed a hugely successful launch on Steam.
The turn-based strategy game asks the age-old question: What if you could breed the perfect army of cats to send out on missions for food, money, and treasure?
Players must select a squad of mutant cats, equip them with class-based collars, and send them into turn-based battle against all manner of messed-up foes.
It’s got the distinct flavours of the developer’s previous work. A hand-drawn, grimly comedic aesthetic with a growing challenge that will take plenty of time to master.
So, fans of Isaac and Meat Boy are naturally excited to start their own cat army, and PC owners can already enjoy it, but what about PS5 and Xbox Series X/S players? Can they, too, live in a house of mutant moggies?
Mewgenics: Is it on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S?
Unfortunately, unless you have a PC capable of playing Mewgenics, you cannot currently play it on PS5 or Xbox Series X/S.
But console owners need not despair. Previous McMillen games, The Binding of Isaac and Super Meat Boy, both came to consoles, with the former remaining PC-exclusive until the release of The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth in 2014.
Last year, McMillen said console ports would arrive “next year”. It may not be long before we see Mewgenics on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and perhaps even Nintendo Switch 2.
When we know more, we’ll update this article with the relevant information, but for now, console players, you’ll just have to look longingly at PC players’ litter of adorably monstrous cats.
