According to a Chinese leaker, Apple’s C2 modem will support 5G satellite connectivity. It’s expected to be featured inside the iPhone 18 Pro series.

The rumour further reveals that the C2 modem will give support for New Radio Non-Terrestrial Networks (NR-NTN) connectivity. It means that in areas without traditional cellular coverage, devices with the new modem will be able to connect to low-Earth orbit satellites for direct internet access.

It’s also expected that the C2 modem will be integrated inside the main chipset unlike the current C1 and C1X modems. This rumour about Apple’s move to NR-NTN isn’t new. It’s been rumoured that Cupertino would bring the feature. The rumours have been on and users don’t expect anything less.

Moreover, Huawei conducted public testing for its own NR-NTN solution in 2025, according to the report, and plans are shaping up to be the starting point for satellite internet connectivity for several smartphone OEMs this year, 2026.
