While Microsoft’s efforts towards integrating AI into its products has been met with considerable pushback from consumers, that hasn’t slowed down the company from announcing its up and coming AI-based endeavours. Take for example Copilot Health, which Microsoft describes as a “separate, secure space within Copilot” that offers users personalized health insights.
From the get-go, Microsoft does clarify that health Copilot is not meant to replace your doctor, but instead serves as a centralized hub that can combine and analyze data from one’s previous health records, wearable data and personal health history, and add a bit of intelligence into giving users a possibly clearer insight of how they are.
Developed by developed with Microsoft’s own internal clinical team with help from an external panel of over 230 physicians across more than 24 countries, the company also describes Health Copilot as a means towards “Medical Superintelligence”, stating:
Copilot Health makes use of increasingly sophisticated AI to make sense of patterns in your health data, surfacing more proactive and actionable insights.
Initiatives such as our Microsoft AI Diagnostic Orchestrator (MAI‑DxO) have already demonstrated impressive results in research environments. Forthcoming publications will outline how our systems can be applied across a broader range of clinical cases and conditions.
This work paves the way to providing users with trusted access to medical superintelligence – health AI that can ultimately combine the wide-ranging knowledge of a general physician, with the depth of a specialist. At every step, new AI features drawing on these capabilities will only be released into Copilot Health after rigorous clinical evaluations and with clear labelling.
Microsoft adds that it’s based the platform using information from credible health organizations from over 50 countries, so users asking Copilot health-related questions will get answers linked to reliable source material; additionally, Copilot Health will be able to connect to real-time healthcare providers in the US, allowing users to search for specialists based on location and insurance coverage, for example.
As for availability, Copilot Health is launching first in English in the United States for users aged 18 and older, with planned regional expansions in the future.
