Samsung’s next foldable is getting a major power boost to solve common battery woes. Leaked specs reveal a new dual-battery design with a substantial capacity increase. This battery upgrade could provide a vital lead over the upcoming Apple Fold.

Foldable smartphones offer flexibility and a unique form factor, but one major drawback has been the small battery capacity necessitated by their complex designs. Samsung has been working on addressing this in its flagship foldable line, but it has not quite caught up with traditional flagship performance yet. This could change with the upcoming full-folding device, which has leaked with hints of a major power upgrade. A larger cell could be the key feature needed to rival the first-ever Apple iPhone Fold.

Next Generation Battery Specifications

While the smaller clamshell Galaxy Z Flip 7 (review) received a substantial battery upgrade last year, recent generations of the larger full-folding model have stayed at a capacity of 4,400 mAh. This has been a bottleneck for endurance, given the large main screen. However, reports suggest that the next Galaxy Z Fold iteration, codenamed H8, will finally sport a larger battery.

Reports indicate that the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 will feature a dual-battery design, similar to the Galaxy Fold 7 (via GalaxyClub). However, the rated capacity is said to consist of 2,369 mAh and 2,485 mAh packs for a total of 4,854 mAh. Samsung is likely to advertise this as a 5,000 mAh typical capacity.

Compared to the previous generation, this would be a modest increase of about 14%, which could translate to several additional hours of screen time. When compounded with a more optimized Android OS and a more efficient processor, the actual battery life could be even more substantial, perhaps lasting a full day without friction.

A Competent Rival to the Apple Fold

The larger cell capacity is not a total surprise, as several other foldable manufacturers have already introduced advanced technologies like silicon-carbon batteries. However, every enhancement is vital for Samsung as the rumored Apple iPhone Fold is expected to arrive soon. This is perhaps the biggest rival to Samsung’s foldable dominance, and longer battery life would offer a distinct marketing advantage.

In addition to the battery, the next full-folding model should see the return of S Pen support after it was removed from the previous generation to accommodate a thinner profile. This remains a unique selling point that Apple is unlikely to match in its first-generation device.

Samsung is expected to refresh its foldable offerings in July 2026. As we get closer to the launch, more details are likely to surface.
