The annual festival of Thrikalanjoor Sree Mahadevar Temple will be celebrated from March 19 to March 26, 2026 (Meenam 5 to Meenam 12). The festival begins with Kodiyettu (flag hoisting) and concludes with Arattu ceremony after eight days of traditional rituals, poojas, and cultural programs.

Temple History and Importance

Thrikalanjoor Sree Mahadevar Temple is an ancient temple located in Pathanamthitta district, Kerala. The temple lies on the Punalur–Pathanamthitta route and is known for its traditional Kerala architecture, eastern gopuram, western gopuram, twin flag masts, and temple structures.

The temple belongs to the Plasthanathu Madham family and is managed by the Thrikalanjoor Sree Mahadevar Devaswom Trust. The temple has a long spiritual tradition and is mentioned in old palm leaf records.

The temple festival is conducted every year in the Malayalam month of Meenam, with Rohini star falling on the sixth day of the festival, which is considered very special.

The festival starts on March 19, 2026 (Thursday) with Kodiyettu ceremony.

The festival continues for eight days with special poojas, rituals, cultural programs, and temple ceremonies. The main events include Rohini Thirunal, Pallivetta, and Arattu.

The festival ends on March 26, 2026 (Thursday) with Arattu and Kodiyirakkam.

Rohini Thirunal is the most important day of the festival. On this day special poojas and rituals are conducted for Lord Mahadeva and Indilayappan.

A unique offering called Pillaveppu is performed for devotees praying for children. This ritual is very rare and is performed only in this temple.

Many devotees visit the temple on Rohini day to offer prayers for health, prosperity, and family happiness.

Temple Legends and Traditions

The temple has strong connections with Mannadi and Pattazhi regions and is mentioned in temple legends. According to tradition, the divine figure Kampithan performed spiritual acts near the temple and was honored with sacred rituals.

The temple also has a special connection with Velinalloor Sastha Temple. On Rohini festival day, Indilayappan is believed to travel ceremonially after accepting pooja.

Twin flag masts facing Mahadeva and Indilayappan is a rare feature found only in this temple.

Pillaveppu offering is performed for child blessing.

Pradosha Pooja is conducted every month for Lord Shiva.

Activities of Mahadeva Seva Sangham

Thrikalanjoor Mahadeva Seva Sangham plays an important role in temple activities. The organization conducts Ashtami Rohini celebration, Navaratri music festival, Mandala festival, Bhagavatha Sapthaham, and Pongala festival every year.

The Sangham also supports festival arrangements, annadanam, temple construction works, and charity activities for the public.

Many development works including gopuram, elephant shed, temple stage, pradakshina path, and office buildings were built with the support of devotees.
