The Legend of California Alpha Playtest Announced for

The Legend of California 2

Publisher Dreamhaven and developer Kintsugiyama have announced an alpha playtest for the western-inspired action-survival game The Legend of California, giving us our first chance to dive into its world at the end of March.

Available on PC, The Legend of California’s alpha playtest is slated to start on March 26 at 10 AM PT/5 PM GMT, ending on March 30 at the same hour.

During this relatively short period of time, those lucky enough to get selected will get to experience “everything that’s currently ready for public testing,” although the developer notes that the title is very much in a work-in-progress state.

Anyone interested can request access to The Legend of California’s March alpha playtest from the game’s Steam page, although the developer does explain that “the playtest itself will be very small, so […] not everyone who signs up will be invited to play.”

The client’s file size requires “around 50 GB” of space on your SSD, which is mandatory, according to the developer.

If you’re not lucky enough, you’ll be happy to hear that the test is not subject to an NDA, so footage may pop up on the internet once it goes live. Furthermore, “a much larger beta” will be hosted at some point during summer.

The Legend of California’s March alpha playtest only has “very basic” controller support. In addition, its servers will be located on the West Coast of the United States, so players from outside the US may not have the best experience.

Following its reveal, Kintsugiyama Jeff Kaplan and Tim Ford shared a video playing the action-survival game for a whopping ten hours. If Steam’s RNG doesn’t pick you for the alpha playtest, you can get a fairly good look at The Legend of California’s current state of development by heading to YouTube.

Provided everything goes well, The Legend of California should enter early access at some point in 2026.
