Russell Crowe’s 148-Minute WWII Epic Wages Total War on Streaming

It’s common for films that score highly with audiences to do well on PVOD and streaming, and few movies have proven this theory as successfully as Russell Crowe‘s latest starring vehicle. While the movie in question did fairly solid numbers in its box-office run last year, it was only after it debuted on transactional platforms that it truly spread its wings. And now, after a couple of months on various PVOD services, the film has continued this positive momentum on Netflix. According to FlixPatrol, it was among the most-watched movies on the streamer’s domestic chart this week, where it will likely find a whole new audience. The movie debuted on the streamer as part of its ongoing deal with Sony, which gives Netflix exclusive first-run streaming rights to the studio’s projects.

The film was released theatrically in November 2025, going on to become a sleeper hit. It grossed more than $55 million worldwide against a reported budget of less than $10 million, making it one of Crowe’s most successful theatrical ventures of the decade. The Oscar-winning star also headlined movies such as Unhinged and The Pope’s Exorcist, his only real box-office hits during this time. Crowe has otherwise found himself at the center of films that weren’t able to make much of an impression on either critics or audiences. He will soon star in a Netflix movie about the “Unabomber” and then appear alongside Henry Cavill in Chad Stahelski‘s Highlander remake. However, Crowe’s 2025 release remains one of the rare recent occasions where one of his movies was able to strike a chord with audiences to such a successful degree.

Russell Crowe’s Fan-Favorite Movie Continues To Rule Over Home Video Charts

The movie in question is Nuremberg, in which Crowe played the Nazi war criminal Hermann Göring. Written and directed by James Vanderbilt, the movie pitted Göring against an American psychiatrist ahead of his trial. The psychiatrist was played by Crowe’s fellow Oscar-winner Rami Malek, while Leo Woodall, John Slattery, Richard E. Grant, Michael Shannon, and Colin Hanks played supporting roles. Nuremberg holds a 71% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, but its audience score on the aggregator stands at a “Verified Hot” 95%. This is one of the biggest reasons for its sustained success. According to FlixPatrol, Nuremberg was among the most-watched movies on the domestic Netflix chart for the entirety of last week, while being among the most-watched movies on the domestic iTunes and Amazon charts as well.
