Blickfeld has introduced QbVolume, a LiDAR system for real-time volume monitoring. The sensor captures spatial data, processes it on the device, and provides information on volume, fill levels, and material movement without external processing, enabling operation independent of location.

QbVolume has been developed for use in raw material management, production, and logistics. It measures bulk materials, granulates, and pallets, determining the volume of material heaps and goods in real time. The system supports storage and transportation processes that depend on volume data, including applications in construction, mining, waste management, and distribution.

The product combines hardware, software, and a data visualization dashboard into a single unit. It is based on experience from deployments where LiDAR sensors were used for volume monitoring. The integrated approach brings these elements together in a system for volume applications.

The system supports Power-over-Ethernet and WiFi connectivity, allowing integration into existing infrastructure. It is supported by a range of accessories, including mounting brackets, cables, and weather protection covers, enabling installation across environments.

The software processes 3D LiDAR data on the device and converts it into volume measurements. It allows configuration of measurement zones based on use cases, including shapes such as conical or cuboid storage areas. The system also accounts for material shapes and storage conditions.

Multiple LiDAR sensors can be combined to cover large storage areas or environments. A dashboard provides visualization of the data and supports analysis.

QbVolume is designed for operation in industrial conditions. Its IP67-rated enclosure protects against dust and moisture, and the system maintains measurement performance in rain, snow, fog, and sunlight. The design has no moving parts, reducing wear and maintenance. On-device processing also reduces system complexity and supports volume monitoring.

“With QbVolume, we are bringing a product to market that has been created based on our customers’ experiences,” says Mathias Müller, CEO of Blickfeld. “Our work in numerous projects has shown how essential precise and readily available volume data is for many industries. With QbVolume, we now offer a dedicated product that delivers this data reliably – simple, robust, and scalable.”
