New reports suggest that OnePlus may be preparing to exit major markets like the US and UK. While the company previously denied these rumors, a fresh leak points toward a significant scale-back. Here is what we know so far.
OnePlus is one of the major Android brands that has been at the forefront since the early days of the platform. It built a strong following and loyal user base thanks to the excellent value offered by its devices. However, as the tech landscape has shifted rapidly in recent years, things haven’t always been smooth sailing for the company. Even worse, rumors are now circulating that it could cease operations in select markets.
Back in January, there was chatter about OnePlus winding down its business in some countries, including the US. This stemmed largely from the brand’s support channels and community forums becoming largely inactive or receiving few updates.
The company quickly dismissed those claims, stating that its commitment and strategy remained unchanged. It emphasized that customers would continue to receive after-sales support, including promised software updates.
Now, things appear uncertain again. A prominent leaker has suggested that OnePlus is planning to cease operations in select markets.
Is OnePlus in Trouble?
According to an X post from Yogesh Brar, citing an unknown source, “OnePlus is shutting down in select Global markets.” The post didn’t specify exact countries but noted that this is “not good news for customers in the US, UK, and EU.” This aligns somewhat with the earlier reports of OnePlus potentially scaling down its business, though nothing has been officially confirmed.
The tip also stated that operations in China would remain unaffected. The same applies to India, though the source indicated OnePlus would eventually focus on budget and mid-range models there. This suggests that flagship offerings in the country may not be performing as expected, prompting a shift toward more popular segments.
Right now, this remains unverified, with no official word from OnePlus. It would also contradict the company’s January statement, in which it pledged full commitment.
That said, even if the rumor proves true and materializes, it might mean OnePlus is cutting back on operations rather than completely exiting these key markets.
Recent smartphone shipment market share data hasn’t been favorable for OnePlus, with Samsung and Apple still dominating in many regions and mixed results for other Chinese makers. Against that backdrop, it would be logical for the brand to focus on areas where its presence is already well-established.
