Location: Bengaluru
Company: SPAN
In this role, you will be responsible for the end-to-end hardware lifecycle—from initial circuit design and simulation to PCB layout, prototype bring-up, and manufacturing support. You will play a key role in developing robust power electronics and embedded systems, ensuring our products meet the highest standards of reliability and performance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Design & Development
- Circuit Design: Develop complex analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuits, with a specific focus on Power Electronics (AC/DC, DC/DC, and DC/AC conversion).
- Schematic & Layout: Execute high-quality schematic capture and multi-layer PCB layouts (4+ layers) using industry-standard EDA tools.
- Simulation: Perform rigorous circuit simulations (LTspice/PSpice/PSIM) to validate designs before prototyping.
- Component Selection: Select components based on performance, cost, and long-term availability (BOM lifecycle management).
2. Validation & Testing
- Hardware Bring-up: Perform hands-on assembly, debugging, and functional testing of PCBA prototypes.
- Lab Expertise: Utilise DSOs, Logic Analysers, Function Generator to validate hardware against design specifications.
- Rework: Conduct fine-pitch SMD soldering and board-level modifications as needed during the prototyping phase.
3. Compliance & Manufacturing
- EMI/EMC & Safety: Support pre-compliance testing and mitigation.
- DFM/DFA/DFT: Collaborate with manufacturing partners to ensure designs are optimised for high-volume fabrication, assembly, and automated testing.
- Documentation: Generate comprehensive Gerber files, assembly drawings, test procedures, and technical design notes.
Technical Requirements
- EDA Tools – Proficiency in Altium Designer (preferred), OrCAD, or KiCad.
- Power Electronics – Deep understanding of switching power supplies (SMPS), energy storage systems, and magnetics design (inductor/transformer selection).
- High-Speed Design – Experience with signal integrity (SI) and power integrity (PI) for interfaces like USB, Ethernet, and LVDS.
- Communication – Hands-on experience with SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, MODBUS, and JTAG.
Core Competencies
- Problem Solving: A structured approach to debugging complex hardware failures.
- Collaborative Mindset: Ability to contribute to hardware architecture discussions and work across firmware and mechanical teams.
- Accountability: Strong ownership of design quality, from the first resistor to the final production-ready board.
- Planning: Ability to estimate engineering effort and manage timelines for complex PCB projects.
Nice to Have
- Experience with IoT/Connected devices or home electrification products.
- Exposure to Hardware Security (Secure Boot, HSM integration).
- Knowledge of thermal simulation and reliability modeling tools.
- Experience managing high-volume supply chains in the India/Asia region.
Qualifications
- Education: B.E./B.Tech or M.Tech in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: 3–5 years of proven experience in professional hardware product development.
