Sony Interactive Entertainment recently announced that it was raising the price of its current console lineup (as well as the PlayStation Portal remote player), which will take effect on April 2, 2026. The company cited ongoing global economic pressures, stating that the adjustments were needed to maintain the quality of its gaming experiences and innovation. Part of an official press release from the company reads:
…we’ve made the decision to increase the prices of PS5, PS5 Pro, and PlayStation Portal remote player globally. We know that price changes impact our community, and after careful evaluation, we found this was a necessary step to ensure we can continue delivering innovative, high-quality gaming experiences to players worldwide.
As such, the price increase affects all models in the current generation. In the United States, the standard PlayStation 5 will move to $649.99, while the PS5 Digital Edition will be priced at $599.99. The high-performance PS5 Pro will see its recommended retail price jump to $899.99; the PlayStation Portal remote player is also receiving a price bump to $249.99.
It should be noted that the price changes are global, and while specific U.S. pricing has been detailed, Sony says that customers in other territories should consult local retailers or visit direct.playstation.com for local pricing updates.
