Unskippable ads on YouTube are already frustrating enough. You can’t go past 10 minutes without one popping up on your screen. If that wasn’t bad enough, YouTube wants to make them even longer. Get ready to spend 90-second unskippable ads when all you want to do is complete the video you so hooked in. A Reddit user shared their experience with an ad they could not skip.

YouTube removes SRV3 format for captions 90-second ads

YouTube 90-second unskippable ads might be the new normal

The Reddit user came across a 90-second unskippable ad on YouTube while watching a 40-minute video, which is quite surprising. According to YouTube’s official ad format rules, non-skippable ads on the YouTube app for connected TVs cannot exceed 30 seconds. This is three times the original duration.

YouTube might just be testing out 90-second unskippable ads. Until the company announces it officially, we can’t be certain. It could also be a bug, since unskippable ads are usually 15 seconds max for mobile and 30 seconds on TV.

If ads are as long as that, there would be no difference between YouTube and regular TV. While YouTube is big on ads (it’s after all its main source of revenue), pushing it to 90 seconds is a bit too much. And not many people would be willing to go through with it.

Tired of YouTube ads?

There’s YouTube Premium for users who find the ads unbearable. Paying for subscriptions removes ads completely. It also offers background play, offline downloads, enhanced bitrate for better quality videos, and a subscription to YouTube Music Premium.
