Qatar’s Amir and Pakistan’s prime minister discussed the U.S.-Iran ceasefire, regional tensions, and condemned Israeli strikes on Lebanon while reaffirming support for diplomacy.
Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani held a phone call with Shehbaz Sharif to discuss evolving regional developments, with a focus on the recently announced ceasefire between the United States and Iran.
During the call, Sharif briefed the Qatari Amir on the details of the agreement and the diplomatic efforts that contributed to reaching it.
Sheikh Tamim expressed support for Pakistan’s role in advancing peace efforts, while Sharif praised Qatar’s leadership and approach to managing recent tensions.
“Spoke with my dear brother His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of Qatar, this evening. Grateful for His Highness’ kind words of support and encouragement for Pakistan’s sincere peace efforts,” Sharif said in a post on X.
“I expressed my deep admiration for the wisdom and restraint demonstrated by the leadership of Qatar in the face of recent hostilities and reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with our Qatari brothers and sisters.”
“Together, we remain committed to working closely for lasting peace across the region,” Sharif added.
The two leaders also discussed ongoing developments in Lebanon and their implications for regional security.
Both sides condemned Israeli airstrikes targeting multiple areas in the country, warning of their potential to further destabilise the region.
They emphasised the importance of supporting peace initiatives and resolving conflicts through dialogue and diplomatic channels, underscoring a shared commitment to promoting stability across the Middle East.
Pakistan has played a central mediating role in the U.S.-Iran ceasefire, leveraging its ties with both sides to facilitate backchannel negotiations and help secure a temporary truce.
