Opening ticket sales 39 days before release is rare for any Hindi film, and even rarer for a romance led by a relatively new theatrical pairing. That is exactly the play now unfolding with Ek Din, which has quietly entered the market far earlier than usual and started drawing attention through its first wave of bookings. The surprise is not just the timing, but where the momentum is coming from, with Raipur emerging as one of the earliest hotspots.
The film, backed by Aamir Khan Productions, has opened advance booking 39 days ahead of its May 1, 2026 theatrical release. That is an unusually early move by Hindi film standards, where ticket sales typically begin only a few days before release, or at most around a week in advance. Box Office Worldwide has exclusively learned that the makers have rolled out bookings in nearly 20 cities so far, with only one show opened per cinema at this stage.
Raipur Leads The First Wave Of Early Sales
The most interesting early response has come from Raipur. As of the latest available booking data on April 11 morning, PVR City Center Raipur had sold 46 tickets, making it the standout location in this opening phase. Ahmedabad followed with 37 tickets at PVR Palladium Mall, while Inox Orion Mall in Gorakhpur had sold 18 tickets. Several properties in Mumbai and Delhi NCR had also moved around 20 tickets each.
Delhi NCR currently leads in screen count, with bookings opened in 24 screens, while Mumbai has 11. Chandigarh and Pune have three cinemas each on sale, and single properties have also opened in cities including Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Surat, Vadodara, Indore, Bhubaneswar, Amritsar, Dehradun, Guwahati, Udaipur, Prayagraj, Patna and Jalandhar. The nationwide tally has already crossed 520 tickets despite minimal promotion around the booking launch.
Inside Ek Din
Ek Din stars Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi, and is directed by Sunil Pandey. The film is produced by Aamir Khan, Mansoor Khan and Aparna Purohit under the Aamir Khan Productions banner. Written by Sneha Desai and Spandan Mishra, the romantic drama marks Sai Pallavi’s Hindi film debut. The story follows a man who gets the chance to spend one life-altering day with the woman he loves.
Why Aamir Khan’s Track Record Makes This Move Stand Out
The early rollout also carries added weight because it comes from a banner that has lately leaned toward carefully curated, distinctive projects rather than routine release patterns. That is why the booking strategy around Ek Din feels notable. It is not just about opening sales early, but about how Aamir Khan’s recent choices have trained attention on every move attached to his productions.
As an actor, Aamir Khan was last seen in Laal Singh Chaddha in 2022, which underperformed at the box office. He then returned to the big screen with Sitaare Zameen Par in 2025, a theatrical release directed by RS Prasanna that emerged as a commercial success. As a producer, he also backed Laapataa Ladies in 2024, a film that won strong critical acclaim. Looking ahead, Ek Din is one of the key titles on his production slate, alongside Lahore 1947, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and headlined by Sunny Deol.
