The battle for smartphone camera dominance rages on—Chinese tech giant Vivo recently announced the launch of the new X300 series phones, a pair of high-powered flagships which come with an added focus on mobile photography. The two phones are now officially available for buyers in China, with a global rollout to more regions expected soon.
First up is the X300 Ultra, which features a camera-centric design all over. Co-developed with Zeiss, the phone’s large camera island houses a triple camera setup with a high-resolution 200MP main camera, 200MP periscope telephoto lens, and a 50MP ultrawide camera. Vivo is also selling a dedicated lens kit for the X300 Ultra, which features ZEISS Triple Prime lenses at 85 mm, 35 mm, and 14 mm.
Like other premium Android flagships, the X300 Ultra runs on a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage; it also features a large 6600mAh battery which supports Vivo’s proprietary 100W charging protocol. Other features include a massive 6.82-inch display, with a resolution of 1440 x 3168 pixels and a 144Hz refresh rate.
Meanwhile, theX300 FE comes with a slightly toned-down hardware specs sheet, and while it does feature a triple-camera array the FE model comes with lower-resolution sensors at 50MP for both the main and telephoto cameras, in addition to a camera island which ditches the rounded design on the X300 Ultra, and instead goes for a Pixel-esque horizontal camera bar.
There’s also a bit of difference when it comes to power, as the X300 FE instead comes with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, as well as a slightly-smaller 6500mAh battery with 90W charging. It also comes with a more compact display at 6.3 inches, although Vivo also sells a camera lens kit which can attach on the back of the X300 FE.
For software, both phones come with Vivo’s own Origin OS, which is a highly-customized version of Android; Vivo also promises five years of OS upgrades, along with seven years of security patches.
