Qatar’s men’s beach volleyball teams have reached the last 16 at the Sanya 2026 Asian Beach Games after winning their final matches in the second preliminary round.

Both pairs claimed straight‑sets victories to maintain their strong start to the competition. Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan beat Uzbekistan 21–14, 21–9, while Mohamed Ehab and Moussa Al‑Khair defeated Macau 21–10, 21–5.

The results followed earlier wins, with Younousse and Tijan overcoming the Maldives 21–6, 21–10, and Ehab and Al‑Khair beating Saudi Arabia 21–17, 21–15 in their opening fixtures.

With qualification secured, both teams will now play their final group matches to determine standings and last‑16 opponents. Younousse and Tijan are set to face Iran, while Ehab and Al‑Khair will meet hosts China.

In the women’s competition, Qatar suffered defeats in their opening matches. Malak Hashim and Nelly Shalabi lost in straight sets to South Korea, while Haya Abu Issa and Laila Mohammed were beaten by Sri Lanka.

The draw placed Younousse and Tijan in Group B with the Maldives, Uzbekistan and Iran, while Ehab and Al‑Khair are competing in Group A alongside Saudi Arabia, Macau and China. Younousse and Tijan remain among the most recognisable names in the field, having won Olympic bronze in Tokyo and enjoyed success on the international circuit.

In beach handball, Qatar strengthened their position at the top of their group with a 2–0 win over Jordan, taking the match 22–18, 18–16. The victory gives them 10 points from five consecutive wins. Earlier results included victories over Bangladesh, Mongolia, Pakistan and Oman.

The team will complete their group campaign against Thailand on Sunday before meeting the Maldives on Monday as they push for a place in the semi‑finals.

Qatar’s men’s 3×3 basketball team begin their campaign on Saturday with matches against Bahrain and Kazakhstan. The women’s team start on Sunday against China, followed by Kazakhstan on Monday.

In jujitsu, Ahmed Al Qardaghi exited the men’s 77kg category after a last‑16 defeat to Jordan’s Alaa Al‑Din Al Khazai. His participation was seen as valuable experience ahead of future competitions.
