A foundation stone ceremony was held in Gaziantep to launch a new social centre project, developed in partnership with Türkiye’s Ministry of Family and Social Services. The event was attended by Qatar’s Ambassador to Türkiye Faisal bin Abdullah Al Hanzab, Gaziantep Governor Kemal Çeber and Qatar Charity Executive Vice President for Programmes and Communication Nawaf Al Hammadi.

The initiative aims to establish an integrated centre providing a safe and stable residential and social environment for orphans and their mothers, with the goal of improving beneficiaries’ quality of life.

The project will feature residential units of varying sizes designed to accommodate 45 families, equipped with essential facilities. It will also include service and recreational amenities such as a dining hall, social activity spaces, playgrounds, children’s areas, outdoor green spaces and parking.

Covering approximately 9,975 square metres, with a built-up area of 3,375 square metres, the centre is expected to be completed within a year at an estimated cost of around QAR 10 million.

The initiative reflects Qatar Charity’s continued efforts to promote social stability and support orphans and their families through sustainable development projects that aim to secure the essentials of a dignified life.

According to a press release received by Doha News, Ambassador Faisal bin Abdullah Al Hanzab said: “The foundation-stone ceremony for the Gaziantep Social Centre reflects the depth of the strong fraternal ties between the State of Qatar and Türkiye.”

Governor Kemal Çeber praised the cooperation between Qatar Charity and the Turkish Ministry of Family and Social Services, saying the centre will be a significant addition to Gaziantep’s humanitarian services. He described the project as an integrated model of social care, combining housing with recreational and educational services for orphans and their families.

Nawaf Al Hammadi said the centre aims to create a lasting impact for 45 orphan families by providing a comprehensive residential and social environment that goes beyond traditional shelter. He noted that the nearly 10,000‑square‑metre site has been designed as a vibrant community with service facilities and green spaces to support psychological and social stability.

Gaziantep Municipality Mayor Fatma Şahin welcomed the initiative, saying the city values projects that strengthen social solidarity. She said the centre will play a key role in supporting orphans and their mothers by providing the essentials of a dignified life, adding that the partnership reflects a shared humanitarian commitment to supporting vulnerable groups and advancing community development.
