Gaming motherboard designs often prioritise performance-focused styling, but a newly introduced enthusiast platform from ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) takes a different approach, combining modern hardware capabilities with a design inspired by early PC gaming systems. Developed as a commemorative edition celebrating two decades of gaming hardware evolution, the motherboard blends retro aesthetics with current-generation features aimed at high-end gaming and enthusiast systems.

The board adopts a copper-dominant design with smaller blue-and-white accents, reflecting the visual identity of earlier enthusiast platforms. While the styling references older gaming hardware, the internal architecture is designed around current high-performance requirements.

The key features are:

• 20+2+2 power-stage design for high-end processor support
• Integrated 2-inch customizable OLED display
• Five M.2 slots, including two PCIe 5.0 interfaces
• Wi-Fi 7 with 10G and 5G Ethernet connectivity
• Advanced DDR5 enhancements with NitroPath memory technology

One notable addition is a 2-inch OLED integrated into the primary M.2 slot. In addition to displaying system information such as processor frequencies, temperatures, and fan speeds, the display also supports user-customised graphics and animations. Exclusive onboard animations include themes that reference both the original design inspiration and the platform’s anniversary milestone.

The motherboard is built for high-performance desktop systems using AMD Ryzen 9000-series processors and incorporates a 20+2+2 power-stage design intended to support demanding workloads and gaming applications. Supporting circuitry includes premium capacitors, upgraded power connectors, and advanced thermal management through large integrated heatsinks.

Memory optimisation is another area of focus. The board incorporates server-grade manufacturing processes, PCB back-drilling, and DRAM signal enhancements to improve DDR5 operation at higher speeds. Storage support includes dual PCIe 5.0 x16 slots and five M.2 slots, with two of the M. 2 slots supporting PCIe 5.0 SSDs.

Connectivity options target both high-speed networking and peripheral expansion requirements. Support includes Wi-Fi 7, dual 10G and 5G Ethernet connectivity, onboard USB4 ports, and front-panel USB Type-C with fast charging capability. The platform also includes cable-management features, allowing compatible liquid coolers to connect without conventional wiring between the motherboard and radiator assembly.
