I see examples of these entrepreneurs all the time. They build a following by discussing important topics or showcasing their lifestyle. After gaining 10k followers, they start getting ad deals and earning money on various platforms. Then, they progress to 50k and even 100k followers, and the advertising becomes more frequent and more “luxurious” – meaning, more famous brands reach out to them. Initially, they promoted a lesser-known online business, but now they have L’Oréal, Uniqlo, and Booking.com willingly paying for ads. And then, they graduate into millions of followers. This is why some of them come up with their own merchandise and start raking in nearly millions of dollars by selling $25 hoodies for $75. Don’t be surprised that they sell them out in a matter of days, if not hours, after announcing yet another merch drop.
I believe that people deserve to get paid for their work. Ideally, it would be nice to see more individuals who deliver positive and useful messages, as opposed to being simply lifestyle vloggers discussing new diets and promoting unnecessary products.
