Samsung Perplexity OpenAI talks are heating up ahead of the Galaxy S26 launch. Samsung is exploring ways to offer users multiple AI options instead of relying solely on Google Gemini.
In a new interview with Bloomberg, Samsung mobile chief Choi Won-Joon confirmed the company is speaking to multiple AI vendors. This includes both Perplexity and OpenAI. The goal isn’t full integration. Instead, Samsung wants to give users the ability to try out different AI agents depending on their needs.
Samsung already offers a free 12-month Perplexity Pro subscription to Galaxy users in the US. A report from June claims Samsung is close to investing in Perplexity and bundling its app and assistant into upcoming phones. OpenAI is also part of the conversation, though without any financial deal on the table.
This strategy makes sense. Different AI models are good at different things. Giving users the freedom to choose could make Galaxy devices feel more flexible. It also helps Samsung avoid putting all its eggs in Google’s basket.
There’s also a competitive angle here. Apple is rumored to be interested in acquiring Perplexity to boost its own Apple Intelligence platform. If that happens, Samsung’s partnership with Perplexity could become more complicated. Samsung Perplexity OpenAI cooperation may not be deep integration, but it opens the door for users to experiment.
