REDMAGIC is one of the most prominent names when it comes to gaming smartphones. The brand certainly made its name with advanced cooling solutions by being the first to bet on active cooling with the use of physical fans for its gaming smartphones. Now, the brand is ready to deploy the next step in advanced cooling – liquid cooling. During the REDMAGIC Gaming and Liquid Cooling Technology Conference in Shenzhen, the brand presented a new liquid cooling system.

The First Active Liquid Cooling For Smartphones

The full details about the new technology are available via the company’s official website. However, the approach is familiar to those used to PC computing. It’s similar to what we see in powerful gaming PCs and AI servers. The difference is that everything is made to fit on the compact size of a smartphone. There is a pump that circulates liquid over hotspots in the machine and then towards a fan and radiator that expel the heat.

This goes beyond some vapor chambers that are sometimes referred to as “liquid cooling”. This solution actually is an active cooling system capable of handling way more heat than passive solutions. REDMAGIC did a good job of miniaturizing the components in the system. It built a piezoelectric ceramic micropump, which is the heart of the system. Multiple design iterations were needed before finding a good balance.

The brand used micron-level laser cutting to carve channels that carry the liquid between the pump and the fan. Channel membranes were designed for smooth, low-resistance flow. The liquid being pumped is an anti-freeze coolant. It remains effective between -40°C and 70°C. This liquid is used in AI servers, and it has excellent electrical insulation and heat transfer.

There were other challenges in developing a valid solution. The company also had to make this solution durable enough to withstand… drops. Yeah, while the chances of dropping a PC are minimal, this happens very often with smartphones.

REDMAGIC’s work has an ultra-low temperature bonding process and new anti-puncture membranes to ensure the phone can survive a hit. In fact, it went through multiple drop tests to determine its durability.

It’s Ready to Launch with Redmagic 11 Pro Series

You know what’s the coolest part in this solution? This isn’t a mere concept being presented that is still years away from coming. In fact, the upcoming REDMAGIC 11 Pro series will make its way to the market with this new liquid cooling system. Under the hood, the phones will carry the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. The new solution will ensure the best possible power for this gaming phone.

As per the reports, the RedMagic 11 Pro phones will be able to run Wuthering Waves at 90fps for up to 120 minutes at ultra-high graphics settings. The device will also support more than 200 popular titles optimized for 2K resolution and 144 Hz frame rates.

The new models will come with the Turbo Fan 4.0 system. It has three core air-cooling approaches: independent, channel-based, and composite. It includes an active cooling fan, which can spin at up to 24,000 rpm. This fan comes with a large airflow duct and a dual-track heat dissipation system.
