Fans have been begging for a new Hunter x Hunter anime ever since Madhouse’s anime ended in 2014. Now, to the surprise of fans, a new anime trailer has dropped from an unlikely source. While the result isn’t quite what many were hoping, it’s still an impressive trailer.
Hunter x Hunter’s New Anime Trailer Looks Nothing Short of Stunning
The trailer, originally released on YouTube by publisher Bushiroad, is for the recently released mobile game Hunter x Hunter Nen x Survivor. With beautiful animation, Nen x Survivor’s opening depicts Gon, Killua, Leorio, Kurapika, Hisoka, and other series favorites.
Bits and pieces of the trailer have aired on Japanese TV, bringing the beloved series back on the airwaves for the first time in more than a decade. The video seems to be getting a positive reception from fans, as it currently has over 3,000 likes.
Nen x Survivor is, as expected, given the title, a survival game that sees players form parties of classic Hunter x Hunter characters to see how long they can last against hordes of enemies. The game was released on February 17th and is free to play with in-app purchases. Unfortunately, Nen x Survivor has yet to be released in the West, so fans may have to wait a minute to play it.
Hunter x Hunter’s Been Expanding Recently
Though Hunter x Hunter’s second anime ended in 2014, the franchise has only grown bigger in recent years.
In addition to Yoshihiro Togashi’s original Hunter x Hunter manga continuing, a slew of other projects have been released. A big fighting game (also published by Bushiroad) titled Hunter x Hunter Nen x Impact was just released in 2025, though it was met with less than stellar reviews from critics and fans who found it a bit one-dimensional.
Still, regardless of the game’s reception, it shows a modern effort to expand the franchise. Part of the series’ resurgence is that it’s easily streamable, as it’s currently available on Crunchyroll, Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and a few smaller streaming services. This makes Hunter x Hunter ridiculously easy to watch.
What Are Hunter x Hunter’s Chances of Getting Another Anime Revival?
Naturally, with the release of the Nen x Survivor trailer, fans will be hungry for an official continuation of the 2011 Hunter x Hunter anime series.
Unfortunately, it’s unclear how likely that is. The biggest issue is that, with the manga still being in the middle of a big story arc, a hypothetical Hunter x Hunter anime revival wouldn’t have a natural stopping point as the 2011 anime did.
Additionally, the manga’s recent arcs have put a large focus on Kurapika. It’s actually been 10 years in real life since Gon appeared in the Hunter x Hunter manga at all. That long without a story’s central character appearing might make the anime a tougher sell.
Still, if the past few years have taught fans anything, it’s that Hunter x Hunter is nothing if not surprising. If the demand is big enough, then hopefully the next Hunter x Hunter anime will be much more than a trailer for a mobile game.
