It probably goes without saying that the initial announcement of Quick Share-to-AirDrop interoperability brought a lot of excitement over to Google’s Pixel fanbase, and it was only a matter of time before we saw the feature arrive for more Google smartphones. That in mind, Google recently announced that it’s now also available for the Pixel 9 series via a gradual roll-out.

Posting on its social media pages, Google’s official Pixel account stated that Quick Share-to-AirDrop compatibility is now arriving for Pixel 9 models. As per its announcement:

Exciting News🎉 Starting today, we are bringing Quick Share compatibility with AirDrop to the Google Pixel 9, 9 Pro and 9 Pro Fold! The feature will roll out over the next few days.

Strangely however, it seems that the Pixel 9a is currently left out, although Google hasn’t exactly offered an explanation as to why. Just recently, Google’s VP of Engineering for Android Eric Kay mentioned that the company is looking to push the feature to more devices, presumably beyond Pixel phones.

A lot of Android and Pixel fans were pleasantly surprised late last year when Google brought over AirDrop support to the Pixel 10 series, and this was soon followed by official statements from other manufacturers who were also working on integrating Apple’s file-sharing system into upcoming Android phones.
