Alexandra Breckenridge was happy to see her Virgin River character featured on Family Guy — even if it was poking fun at her show.
Breckenridge, 43, shared her reaction to being animated into an episode of Family Guy while chatting with TV Line in an interview published on Sunday, March 29. In February, she and Martin Henderson, who play love interests on Virgin River, were featured on the long-running Fox series.
“When did this come out?!” Breckenridge exclaimed when she heard the news. “I have a friend who I just saw recently who’s a producer on the show, and he did not mention this to me at all!” She added, “I saw him, like, less than a month ago, a couple weeks ago. I can’t believe he said nothing to me. I literally went to his house!”
Breckenridge noted that she didn’t take any offense to the joke, telling the outlet, “I guess that means we’ve made it into some kind of iconic, referenceable category, right?” (Through the years, Breckenridge herself has even voiced other characters on Family Guy.)
In the Family Guy episode, Meg, voiced by Mila Kunis, pokes fun at Virgin River after she tries a Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks. She then had visions of mermaids, Temu, Virgin River and more. She swims past a picture of Breckenridge and Henderson’s respective characters, Melinda “Mel” Monroe and Jack Sheridan, hugging, which is a recreation of a scene from season 4.
Beyond the Family Guy quip, Breckenridge opened up about where Mel and Jack stand amid their journey to become parents. Season 7, which was released on Netflix earlier this month, ended on a cliffhanger with the newborn they hoped to adopt being rushed into an emergency heart surgery.
While speaking to Parade, Breckenridge gave fans a hint of what’s to come for Mel and Jack.
“Obviously, I can’t reveal what happens. But let’s be realistic, I don’t think the writers are going to take the baby away from Mel and Jack,” she said during the Friday, March 27, interview. “I think the fans would revolt.”
She added, “I think it’s going to be a real journey for the two of them. Like any new parents, they’ll have to figure out how to balance their relationship, work, and home life.” She continued, “They’ve proven they can come together no matter what. I imagine that continues in this new chapter on their farm.”
Breckenridge still felt affected by the baby’s condition, considering her character suffered a miscarriage and gave birth to a stillborn. “I didn’t like it because this is really putting us through the wringer. I just hope it’s going to be OK in season 8. I don’t know how Mel is going to be able to handle this, given everything she’s gone through, so we’ll have to see,” she explained.
