Battlefield 6: Price leak causes outrage among fans, but EA immediately reassures them: “There will be no price increase.”

Battlefield 6x scaled

Battlefield 6 will not cost $80 after all. A leak sparked a debate about premium content, DLCs, and battle passes.

EA announced at an investor conference that it currently has no plans to adjust the price to $80 or €80 for full-price games.

It can therefore be assumed that the leaked prices for Battlefield 6 of up to 80 euros are incorrect.

EA CEO Andrew Wilson responded to a question at the conference about price increases to 80 euros as standard by competitors such as Nintendo in relation to BF6:

We are not planning any price changes at this time. […] We will continue to explore different pricing models to deliver great value to our customers, but no dramatic changes are planned at this time.

Xbox recently reversed its price change to €80 following fan criticism surrounding The Outer Worlds 2. Randy Pitchford from Gearbox had also mentioned €80 for Borderlands 4, but in the end, the price remained at €70. New games for the Switch 2, such as Mario Kart World, already cost €80.

Original report from July 29:

Even before the multiplayer reveal of Battlefield 6 on July 31, the military shooter’s alleged price tag is causing plenty of discussion.

According to a leak, Battlefield 6 will cost up to €80 for the basic version.

What exactly has been leaked?

According to Dealabs Magazine, citing a Telegram group of credible leakers, the following prices are expected to apply (not officially confirmed):

Standard Edition

  • PC: $70
  • Xbox Series: $80
  • PS5: $80

Phantom Edition

  • PC: 100 euros
  • Xbox Series: 110 euros
  • PS5: 110 euros

An upgrade to the Phantom Edition will therefore cost around 30 euros.

Is $80 the new full price?

EA could now actually go through with what Microsoft recently backed away from after heavy criticism from fans: raising the full price of new games to $80 – at least on consoles.

What the more expensive Phantom Edition will include is not yet known. However, according to reports, it will not be a traditional collector’s edition with physical extras, but a digital deluxe version with additional in-game content.

However, there will be no advance access (known as Advanced Access) for an additional fee: all editions will be available to play at the same time on release. According to leaks, this will be on October 11, 2025.

Battle Pass instead of Premium?

On Reddit, the price is already causing heated discussions. Many believe that €80 is too high for a standard version.

One user commented: “Good luck with that price, I’m out.” Someone else replied: “I learned my lesson last time not to buy a $100 game.”

Battlefield 1 was the last part

The debate also raises the question of how future content will be offered after release. After 2018, Battlefield abandoned the old premium model with map packs for real money in favor of free content updates via Seasons.

Since then, the system has been financed by skin sales and Battle Passes – a model that is now widely established, e.g. in Call of Duty, Fortnite, Rainbow Six Siege X, and Hunt: Showdown.

So what’s behind the upgrade to the Phantom version? “It’s probably the Battle Pass or something along those lines,” one user speculates. “I don’t believe in paid DLC maps in 2025; it divides the players. That seems like a model of the past,” another fan speculates.
