Becky Lynch’s Star Trek Character Vs. Her Violent WWE Persona

Warning: SPOILERS for Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Season 1Rebecca Quin’s stalwart Starfleet Officer in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is a stark contrast to Becky Lynch, who is the epitome of a violent and conniving WWE heel. Becky Lynch is a multi-time World Champion and a former two-time Women’s Intercontinental Champion – the title Star Trek‘s social media renamed the “Intergalactic Championship” in honor of Rebecca Quin in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.

Credited as her real name in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, Rebecca Quin plays Lieutenant McKenzie Ya, the operations officer of the USS Athena. Lieutenant Ya is part if Captain Nahla Ake’s (Holly Hunter) bridge crew. Quin debuted as Lt. Ya in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’s series premiere, and she returned in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy episode 4.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is a part-time side gig for Rebecca Quin, who has embodied Becky Lynch since she signed with World Wrestling Entertainment in 2013. As “The Man,” Becky Lynch was one of the most popular wrestlers in WWE. In recent years, Lynch has evolved into “Big Time Becks,” a diabolical, self-serving egotist who is the opposite of what a Starfleet Officer should be.

Becky Lynch In WWE Is The Violent Opposite Of Her Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Character

Becky Lynch stands over AJ Lee

Becky Lynch’s surprise appearance on the March 16th episode of WWE Monday Night RAW hammers home how completely different “Big Time Becks” is from Lieutenant Ya. Lynch ambushed her nemesis, AJ Lee, after Lee’s successful defense of her Women’s Intercontinental Championship against Bayley. Watch Becky attack AJ below:

Becky Lynch didn’t stop at jumping AJ Lee from behind. Becky continued pummeling her archrival and knocked Lee out cold with the Intercontinental Championship belt. AJ defeated Becky for the IC title at WWE Elimination Chamber on February 28, which led to Lynch having a social media meltdown.

Becky Lynch has boycotted Monday Night RAW ever since losing to AJ Lee. Becky spent weeks threatening litigation and declaring Lee’s championship reign invalid on social media. Lynch’s surprise comeback and decimation of AJ Lee sets up their inevitable rematch at WrestleMania, with Becky looking to exact her revenge and become a three-time Intercontinental Champion.

Star Trek fans who were intrigued by Rebecca Quin’s performance as Lt. Ya and checked out Quin’s ‘day job’ as Becky Lynch may be shocked at how different her pro wrestling persona is. Becky Lynch savagely wrecking AJ Lee is an action that would be unthinkable to a Starfleet Officer.

Becky Lynch is self-absorbed, quick to anger, and prone to bursts of startling violence. In a WWE ring, Lynch is a crafty heel who capitalizes on her opponents’ mistakes and uses her cunning (and penchant for bending the rules) to win.

Becky Lynch Could Be A Great Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Villain

Becky Lynch as Lt. Ya

Becky Lynch in WWE is the polar opposite of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’s Lieutenant Ya, which speaks to how versatile and talented a performer Rebecca Quin is. Of course, Quin has had 13 years to evolve her Becky Lynch character into one of the biggest stars in WWE history. In contrast, Lt. Ya has only appeared twice in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.

Judging by how Rebecca Quin performs as Becky Lynch, however, Lieutenant Ya could become a hell of a Star Trek villain, especially following Paul Giamatti’s acclaimed scenery-chewing as Nus Braka in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy season 1. Rebecca could easily port the larger-than-life and dastardly qualities Becky Lynch personifies in WWE to Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.

Thus far, Lieutenant Ya has only made brief but memorable appearances in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, and season 2 needs to develop her character more. What better way than to tap into Rebecca Quin’s heelish talents to turn Lieutenant Ya into a threat to Starfleet? Becky Lynch’s charismatic villainy could be infused into Lieutenant Ya to create a striking new Star Trek: Starfleet Academy heavy.

Many Star Trek fans theorize that Nus Braka had an insider in Starfleet. How else would Nus have known about Omega-47 to steal it from the United Federation of Planets’ top-secret Starbase J19-Alpha?

Rebecca Quin achieves a remarkable balance by playing one of the top heels in WWE and a noble Starfleet Officer in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, and she likely enjoys playing both a hero and a villain. Rebecca is certainly good at both roles.

While Star Trek: Starfleet Academy fans know little thus far about Lt. Ya, Becky Lynch’s notoriety is legendary in WWE, and “Big Time Becks” is extremely entertaining when she does terrible things that would be unthinkable to a Starfleet Officer.
