In some breaking news coming straight from the FICCI Frames 2025 event in Mumbai, Ayushmann Khurrana has made a massive announcement about his upcoming projects. The versatile actor has confirmed that he will be collaborating with two of the most prestigious production houses in Bollywood: Sooraj Barjatya’s Rajshri Productions and Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions.
This is probably the first time the actor has officially spoken about this powerful line-up, which promises to take his career to a new level. The announcement came during a candid chat where he also spoke about his changing approach to selecting films.
A Shift Towards A ‘Wider Audience’
Ayushmann revealed that he is making a conscious shift in his film choices post-pandemic. While he is known for his unique “hybrid films” that deal with taboo subjects, he is now looking to do more commercial films for a larger audience. “I have deviated post-pandemic. My choices pre-pandemic was more taboo based. I am staying slightly away from taboo but not from quirk. So, it has to be for a bigger palette, more rooted, more commercial,” he shared. Speaking about his new projects, he confirmed, “My first, big Diwali release would be followed by a Sooraj Barjartya film, which, again is for a wider audience. Then I am also doing a Dharma film which also would be for a wider audience.”
‘Entertainment Should Overpower The Messaging’
Sharing the secret behind his successful films like Vicky Donor and Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Ayushmann explained his simple philosophy. He believes in mixing social issues with entertainment, something he learned from his street theatre days. Using a brilliant analogy, he said, “Audience bacche ki tarah hoti hai. Unko meethi goli deni padti hai dawai ki. Dawai kadvi lagegi toh mazaa nahin aayega!” (The audience is like a child. You have to give them a sweet pill for medicine. If the medicine is bitter, it’s no fun). For him, subtle messaging with strong entertainment is the most important thing.
Don’t Worry, The ‘Tedhi’ Films Will Continue!
While his new line-up is focused on big-scale entertainers, Ayushmann reassured his core fans that he has not forgotten his roots. He promised that he would continue to do the unconventional films he is known for. “Lekin main beech mein panga leta rahunga. I’ll continue to do tedhi films as that’s my core!” (But I’ll keep taking risks in between. I’ll continue to do quirky films as that’s my core!), he said with a smile. This proves he will strike a balance between big commercial projects and the content-driven films that audiences love him for.
