A massive opening day can sometimes come with messy last-minute firefighting, and on March 18, 2026, Dhurandhar: The Revenge found itself in exactly that situation. Even as the Ranveer Singh starrer continued to dominate conversation and advance booking buzz, a wave of cancellations hit India’s biggest multiplex networks, leaving fans scrambling and exhibitors forced into rapid show reshuffles.

The disruption is especially striking because the film’s pre-release momentum has been among the loudest of the season. But on the day paid previews began, the spotlight briefly shifted from box office frenzy to operational chaos.

Latest Update: 20,000 Plus Tickets Cancelled At National Chains

Box Office Worldwide has exclusively learned that more than 20,000 tickets were cancelled across PVR INOX and Cinepolis on the day paid previews kicked off, with the cancellations linked to release related issues.

In several centres, booked shows for dubbed versions were called off close to showtime, and refunds were initiated for affected patrons. A late switch in programming also meant some properties replaced cancelled regional-language previews with Hindi shows, depending on availability and location level demand.

Dhurandhar The revenge cancelled tickets in national chains:

PVR + INOX: 15,000

Cinepolis: 5,000

Total: 20,000

Director Aditya Dhar, meanwhile, appealed to audiences to avoid spoilers and experience the film as intended in cinemas. In a statement shared ahead of release, he said, “So when we sat down to make ‘Dhurandhar. The Revenge’ we knew one thing with absolute certainty: we had to surprise you. We had to make you feel emotions you weren’t prepared for. Deeply. Honestly.” He added, “We’ve put our hearts into Dhurandhar. The revenge so you can experience every twist, every emotion, exactly the way it is meant to be felt. In a theatre.”
