This new trending Netflix series consists of just four episodes and has become an instant overnight streaming success. Due to its short length and easy-to-binge format, it has become one of the best new shows to watch on Netflix this weekend, March 13–15, 2026.
While new Netflix series like the crime mystery That Night or the #1 most-watched show this week, One Piece, are also great streaming options, there is no better choice than this 4-part docuseries chronicling an enormous family empire to binge in one night.
Dynasty: The Murdochs Just Arrived On Netflix – What It’s About
The 4-part docuseries Dynasty: The Murdochs follows the life and career of the billionaire business mogul, Rupert Murdoch, who currently owns Fox Corporation (Fox News, Fox Sports) and News Corp (The Wall Street Journal, the book publisher HarperCollins). The series primarily focuses on the very long and well-documented public feud between Murdoch’s three adult children as they compete to become the sole heir of their father’s media empire upon his eventual death.
Although Murdoch is still alive and is currently 95 years old, coverage of his eventual succession between one of his several adult children, namely James, Lachlan, and Elisabeth, began decades ago. Dynasty: The Murdochs gives an overview of Rupert Murdoch’s meteoric rise to an unthinkable level of success and power before diving into his unusual vetting process, treating his kids more like job applicants than loved ones.
Dynasty: The Murdochs contains new details and evidence that adds a modern spin to the succession story, which was the main source of inspiration for Jesse Armstrong’s massively successful HBO series Succession. Throughout its four episodes, it becomes quite amazing how much the HBO series has in common with the new Netflix docuseries, which both examine this incredibly rare but fiercely competitive power struggle between siblings. This raises the question of whether the Murdochs can truly be considered a family unit, as opposed to a magnificent enterprise.
Dynasty: The Murdochs Is The Perfect Netflix One-Night Binge
If you loved Succession, then consider Dynasty: The Murdochs an absolute must-watch this weekend. With four episodes total, each with runtimes between 47 and 55 minutes long, this new Netflix series is the perfect length to start and finish in just one sitting. In fact, watching Dynasty: The Murdochs may just inspire viewers to binge-watch Succession again, which ran for four exceptional seasons from 2018 to 2023 and won 19 Emmys.
Following its world premiere on Friday, March 13, Dynasty: The Murdochs has skyrocketed to the #6 spot on Netflix’s U.S. Top 10 TV Shows list, and could very well crack the Top 5 by the end of the weekend. Netflix describes the series as “a real-life Shakespearean drama unfolds in this blow-by-blow account of the battle for Rupert Murdoch’s empire.” The series promises three things, if nothing else: betrayal, bitterness, and backstabbing.
What is most fascinating, and somewhat tragic, is how Rupert Murdoch seemingly not only invited but supported this heightened sibling rivalry far before he ever needed to be succeeded. It is certainly hard to feel bad for any of the Murdochs, given their incredible wealth, but James, Lachlan, Elisabeth, and more were all consumed by their father’s legacy from the moment they were old enough to become aware of it. Even as far back as the 1996 launch of Fox News, which is explained in episode 2, the succession question was very pressing, which ignited the eventual backstabbing and betrayals among the Murdoch clan.
Although Rupert Murdoch’s heir apparent has been named and documented, getting an entire picture of this larger-than-life true story is highly entertaining and even shocking. For this reason and more, Dynasty: The Murdochs is one of the best new shows to binge-watch in just one night on Netflix this weekend as it continues to surge on streaming charts.
