RAWALPINDI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 6th Apr, 2026) Easter was observed with religious fervour and devotion in Rawalpindi on Sunday, as special prayers and services were held at churches across the city amid stringent security arrangements.
Churches, including St Joseph Cathedral in Lalkurti, Saint Christ Church and Saint Paul Church, were illuminated and adorned with lights and flowers, while worshippers sang hymns and carols and reflected on the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
During the main congregations, priests and pastors underscored the importance of religious tolerance, fraternity and harmony, urging people to promote the message of love and humanity without discrimination.
A large number of men, women and children attended the services, offering special prayers for the country’s peace, progress and prosperity, as well as interfaith harmony. Messages of peace, compassion and brotherhood featured prominently in the sermons.
Children, in particular, expressed excitement over the festivities, saying Easter brought them joy and gifts, especially traditional Easter eggs. Special meals were also arranged to mark the conclusion of the 40-day fasting period.
On the security front, the Rawalpindi Police remained on high alert to ensure the peaceful conduct of religious activities.
On the directives of City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Mehmood Hamdani, comprehensive arrangements were put in place at all churches and places of worship.
More than 2,100 police officers and personnel were deployed, while over 100 traffic wardens managed the flow of vehicles around key locations. Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) supervised the arrangements in the field, accompanied by divisional Superintendents of Police, Sub-Divisional Police Officers and other senior officials.
Special teams, including the Elite Force, Dolphin Force and police mobile units, conducted patrols in and around churches. Walk-through gates were installed at entry points, and worshippers were allowed entry after thorough checks. CCTV cameras were used for continuous monitoring, while parking areas were designated at a safe distance.
CPO Syed Khalid Mehmood Hamdani said that protection of minority rights and maintenance of law and order remained top priorities, adding that all available resources had been utilised to ensure the safety of citizens.
