Upcoming RPG Fate/EXTRA Record won’t be coming to PC, PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch in 2025 after all — Bandai Namco and Type-Moon have delayed the release to Spring 2026.

Fate/EXTRA Record is a remake of the dungeon crawler Fate/EXTRA from 2010 for PlayStation Portable. It featured a turn-based combat system and a visual novel-inspired narrative system, including the ability to get good and bad endings depending on the player’s decisions.

Although it’s taking place in a different timeline from Fate/stay night, some familiar characters from the main series appear, such as Rin Tohsaka, Shinji Matou, Emiya as Archer, and Cú Chulainn as Lancer. Saber retains her position as the lead heroine, but has a different identity this time around: Instead of Altria (King Arthur), a female version of Roman emperor Nero takes center stage alongside the protagonist.

Other historical figures featured as Servants in Fate/EXTRA include Francis Drake, Robin Hood, Lü Bu, Gawain, Buddha, and Vlad the Impaler.

“We have been working diligently on the full remake of Fate/EXTRA, the first RPG in the Fate series, with a view to releasing it in 2025. However, we have come to the conclusion that a little more time is needed to deliver a higher quality, more enjoyable game to our customers,” the developers stated on the game’s official website.

Kazuya Nino, the game’s director, apologized for the delay and took responsibility in his own statement on social media. He explained that he “completely misjudged the schedule” due to underestimating how much time it would take to create a fully-voiced game, as this is his first time doing so.
