Drew and Jonathan Scott Have Been Largely Unaffected, But There’s Been One Major Change
Series cancellations were announced back to back in June. While the Property Brothers stars are seemingly safe, two of three of their three series have now been postponed. According to a post on the brothers’ Instagram Story, their new show Chasing the West has been delayed until July 30. The show was originally set to premiere on July 10.
The sophomore season of Don’t Hate Your House With the Property Brothers was initially slated to premiere on July 30. A press release reveals the show will now air “later this year,” without an official date. A new season of Celebrity IOU was the only one of the three shows to remain on schedule as it premiered on Wednesday, July 9. The season features Rachel Brosnahan as the special guest, as she joined the brothers to renovate her best friend’s family kitchen and dining room.
Why Did HGTV Cancel So Many Shows?
Since June 22, the channel has canceled multiple home renovation and real estate shows. The reasons have not been made public, but some of the stars have hinted it was unexpected and not amicable. One anonymous production source told Daily Mail that more change is coming. Per the source, the network was spending a ton of money on its stars.
“We had to stop the bleeding,” one senior source claimed. “We were hemorrhaging money. So in order to stop the bleeding, we had to have a bloodbath. It was calculated cuts to make things make sense, financially.” More cancellations or schedule changes are reportedly inevitable. “Decisions are still being made,” said the programming insider. “It sucks for everyone involved but that’s the TV business. Everyone understands that. Cable networks are struggling now, and we all have to make smart decisions.”
Stars React to HGTV Show Cancellations
Some of the show’s stars expressed disappointment with the news. Bynum posted a series of landscape photos on Instagram days after announcing Bargain Block wouldn’t be returning for a fifth season that reads: “Today is a great day to let go of the anger and hurt of the past.”
Sherrod announced that Married to Real Estate was canceled the same week, saying she heard of the cancellation after returning from a family vacation. she left a supportive comment on Bynum’s post, writing, “Indeed it is!! Anger and hurt are part of sitting in the ashes, a necessary and understandable part of the process. But once we clear the rubble, we can build back better!!! Onward and upward my friend. The world is still watching and cheering us all on!!”
