When many people read the word “investment”, they immediately think of the stock market or a house. They hear someone say, “I’m going to invest next month,” and immediately feel that the person has a lot of money to spend on a property, or is “too smart or too ignorant” to put money on the market.

And of course, not everyone is willing to make one of those investments right now. You ask them why they are not investing in anything, and they say, “The market is too risky and I don’t want to lose my money right now,” or “I don’t have enough capital for a house at the moment.”

However, they are not the only type of investments available. Investment is about putting resources, whether that’s money, time, or effort, into something that will give you returns in the future.

And there are dozens of ways to invest that don’t require you to have thousands of dollars or understand complicated financial markets.

The reason most people don’t invest isn’t because they can’t afford it or because they don’t understand it. It’s because they have a narrow definition of what investment means, and they’ve convinced themselves that if they can’t do the “traditional” investments, they shouldn’t invest at all.
