In 2012, a rally at Mumbai’s Azad Maidan protesting alleged atrocities against Muslims in Myanmar had spiraled into a violent riot. It led to the desecration of the ‘Amar Jawan Jyoti memorial’, torching of police and media vehicles, destruction of public property and abusive attacks on women police officers.
