Jenna Johnson on Touring With a Toddler and Her Go-To Hair Tool

Dancer, mom and TV personality Jenna Johnson has long been synonymous with the glamorous ballroom looks viewers see week after week on Dancing With the Stars. But off the dance floor, the performer says her real-life beauty routine is all about ease—one of the reasons she was excited to partner with Revlon Hair Tools to debut the new Revlon VersaStyler ($100).

“I think I’m labeled so much as the dancer Jenna, but I am so passionate about beauty in general,” Johnson says about the new partnership announced today. “Revlon has just been at the top of my list of a dream brand to work with. When I was approached about helping them launch this new VersaStyler, I was like, ‘This is such an easy yes because I’m a big fan.’ I also really love their products. It just felt like a match made in heaven. I can’t believe that this is happening.”

For Johnson, who is currently on tour, a multitasking hair tool feels particularly fitting. The VersaStyler is designed as a three-in-one styling device, allowing users to dry, volumize and create a polished blowout with a heated barrel, all from one tool. “I’m definitely not a hairstylist,” she admits. “It’s always been intimidating for me to try to find those salon-worthy looks. I’m lucky that I get to work with incredible hairstylists for television, but when I’m just Jenna at home and I want incredible hair, I need tools that can give me that style.”

That’s where simplicity matters most. “What I love about this product is that it’s a three-in-one tool where I can blow-dry, get volume and also use the heated barrel,” she explains. “I can achieve that beautiful blowout look without that intimidation behind it. I’ll actually be able to do it.”

Of course, after years in front of cameras and under hot stage lights, Johnson has also learned a few tricks to stretch a good hair day. “In real life, I do love to protect my hair by not washing it so often,” she says. “Dry shampoo and then going back in with a blowout look is great. I have really fine, flat hair, and honestly the dirtier the hair, the better—it gives me more volume. That’s my secret!”

Her relationship with her hair has evolved alongside her career. Early training and competitions required long hours of styling and performance-ready looks, and that only intensified when she joined Dancing With the Stars and began touring. Today, Johnson says she gravitates toward styles that feel polished but approachable—looks that can take her from rehearsals to real life without a full glam team.

Life on tour, however, brings its own unique rhythm. Between nightly shows and travel, Johnson often finishes performances buzzing. “I feel like I’m still coming off a bunch of adrenaline from the past two hours of doing a full-out show,” she says. “I shower at the venue—which is an experience in itself—do my little self-care routine, and then I come onto the bus.”

This tour experience is different for another reason: Johnson is traveling with her young son. “I’m in full mommy mode,” she says. “We’ve adapted my son to be on tour time, and it’s actually so special because I get to go to bed with him, even if it’s midnight sometimes. I love that we get those evening snuggles, reading stories and going to bed together on the tour bus.”

The setup, she says, feels a bit like “glamping”—cozy but adventurous. “It’s fun for a second and then you’re like, ‘Oh, I live on a bus,’” she jokes. “But it’s really special to be able to do this as a family. I wouldn’t trade the experience for the world.”
