Marvel’s Spider-Man Xbox Official Update Leaves Gamers Torn

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on Xbox may sound like a fanciful notion, but a recent update on the possibility of Spidey ports on PlayStation’s rival machine has raised some interesting points among gamers.

Though the state of the video game industry as a whole may be a bit of a cause for concern right now, there are some reasons to be positive about the direction of travel. One of the biggest is the lessening of the boundaries between the different platforms, as the console wars become a distant memory for those of us who were around at their height.

Is Marvel’s Spider-Man Coming To Xbox?

An important part of that is the roster of games heading over to other platforms after their initial launch, allowing more players than ever to enjoy some pretty great releases. Former PlayStation exclusives like God of War, The Last of Us and Horizon: Zero Dawn have all made their way to PC in recent years, and the community has been all the better for their arrival on storefronts like Steam.

Another of the games that made the jump to PC is Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and it’s safe to say the web-slinger went down a storm, with the game currently sitting on a 9/10 rating on Steam. Unfortunately, Xbox players are still very much out in the cold when it comes to keeping up with the adventures of Peter Parker and Miles Morales in the hero sequel, and a new update likely means that won’t be changing any time soon.

Over on Twitter, the developer behind Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Insomniac Games, shared a post wishing their players a happy Valentine’s Day. Underneath that post, a fan took the opportunity to ask if the game would be heading over to Xbox in the future.

In news that will inevitably come as a disappointment to many, Insomniac responded with a simple, “Not likely,” putting a swift end to any hopes the fan may have had and confirming that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will not be coming to Xbox in the process.

The responses were filled with Xbox players disappointed at the update, and PlayStation fans laughing at their misfortune.

“PlayStation holding you hostage? I remember when I used to play Spider-Man games on Xbox and then that got taken away,” one response read.

“On a serious note. Don’t you want more customers to get your game? I’ve played the game on PS4/PS5 and I’d still buy it on Xbox. Lots of people on Xbox that would buy Spider-Man, it’s the biggest IP in the world and I for one would double dip for it,” another keen customer added.

Others took the time to point out that Insomniac Games said something similar about a PC port some years ago, before the game arrived on the platform some months later. Here’s hoping Marvel’s Spider-Man fans get what they’ve been waiting for.
