Microsoft has lowered the price of The Outer Worlds 2 ahead of the game’s release. Instead of $79.99 USD, as originally planned, the game will be available at a price of $69.99. Refunds will be issued to anyone who’s already pre-ordered the upcoming title.
Obsidian Entertainment’s RPG was supposed to be the first of Microsoft’s first-party games to be sold at the $79.99 price point, which the company announced would be its standard for big releases going forward. Whether Microsoft has been rethinking the policy generally or simply concluded that the price is too high for the single-player RPG specifically is currently unknown.

Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo have all begun to ask for $79.99 for major titles this year on top of making price increases on hardware or subscription services.
The Outer Worlds 2 is set to be released on October 29, 2025, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
