The next big RPG for PlayStation 5 (and PC), Lost Soul Aside, has finally been released after a 10-year development cycle, and the game has debuted to a mixed reception. Fans are praising the depth of the combat system, but seem to be harshly criticizing its characters, story, voice acting, and a surprising aspect that has rendered the Steam version of the game “unplayable” in some cases.

On Steam, Lost Soul Aside currently sits at a “mixed” reception, with a particular criticism of the game’s ray-tracing performance. Some fans are reporting stuttering, crashes, and graphical glitches when the ray-tracing options are on.

Fans Are Divided

Lost Soul Aside has had a troubled development. What started as a one-person passion project turned into a larger-scale game with support from PlayStation, but the quality is now in question. In addition to the ray-tracing causing severe performance issues, there has been some criticism aimed at the lead character, Kaiser, and other characters being one-dimensional, as well as inconsistent lip-synching with the English voices.

On the flip side, fans praise the game’s intense action combat and compare it favorably to other action games like Devil May Cry 5 and Bayonetta. The bosses are being received particularly well, too. So, overall, fans seem to be divided on the game’s quality, especially when it’s priced at $69.99. There is a playable demo available now for fans who are on the fence.

Lost Soul Aside May Be Disappointing To Some

10 Years Of Waiting

Expectations should always be kept in check until a game officially releases, but after 10 years of waiting and speculating on the game’s story, characters, premise, and gameplay, anything that can bring the experience down is going to feel even heavier. Luckily, the game’s performance on PC can be improved by turning off ray-tracing, but since it is in the game as a feature, it’s still likely disappointing for fans.

As one of the most anticipated PlayStation 5 games of 2025, it seems this year continues to bring surprises, good and bad. Lost Soul Aside might be getting a mixed reception so far, but that’s not likely to stop fans from enjoying it, assuming the game’s performance holds out for the duration of the playthrough.
