Marks & Spencer (M&S) has set the bar high by becoming the UK’s first high street retailer to introduce a dedicated stoma underwear range specially for children. This new launch builds on its existing women’s and men’s collections, as the company aims to normalise inclusive design and help remove barriers to access and affordability.

A stoma is a surgically created opening in the abdomen that enables waste to be collected in an external pouch. Research indicates that nearly 70% of people with a stoma experience leakage, which can impact both their clothing and self-confidence. The retailer also notes that online search trends indicate rising demand for comfortable, high-street clothing options designed specifically for children with a stoma.

The new stoma underwear has been added to Marks & Spencer’s Kids adaptive range, which is designed to help children with additional needs, including kids with physical disabilities, sensory sensitivities or medical conditions to dress more easily and feel more comfortable.

The retailer added that it has made the range accessible in terms of pricing, with styles costing between £9.50 and £10.50.

With this latest addition, the retailer is reinforcing its commitment to inclusive design that goes beyond tokenism, focusing instead on practical solutions that make a tangible difference to families. By addressing both functionality and affordability, the launch reflects a growing recognition across the high street that adaptive clothing should be accessible, thoughtfully designed, and readily available.
