Qatar and China’s officials discussed rising Middle East tensions after Iranian attacks on Qatari territory, urging restraint, dialogue and diplomatic solutions.

Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mohammed Al Khulaifi, held a telephone call on Sunday with Zhai Jun, the Special Envoy of the Chinese Government for Middle East affairs.

The call focused on the recent military escalation in the region and its implications for both regional and global security.

The two officials reviewed the latest developments and warned that continued tensions could threaten stability in the Middle East and beyond

Both sides stressed the importance of pursuing diplomatic channels and peaceful dialogue to address ongoing disputes and prevent further escalation.

Al Khulaifi reaffirmed Qatar’s firm condemnation of the recent Iranian attacks on Qatari territory, stating that such actions are unacceptable under any pretext or justification.

He underscored that Qatar has consistently sought to distance itself from regional conflicts and has prioritised diplomatic engagement over confrontation.

Doha remains committed to fostering dialogue and has looked “to facilitate dialogue between the Iranian side and the international community.”

For his part, Zhai Jun expressed China’s solidarity with Qatar and reiterated Beijing’s support for stability in the Gulf region.

He called for restraint by all parties involved and emphasised the need to return to peaceful mechanisms for resolving disputes.
