Quentin Tarantino, the Oscar-winning auteur who has made an indelible impact on cinema over the past 35 years via films like Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Inglourious Basterds and Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, will be honored at the upcoming Burbank International Film Festival, the fest’s organizers announced on Monday.

On Sunday, Sept. 28, Tarantino will be the guest of honor at the fest’s awards gala, which will be held at the Marriott Burbank. He will be toasted by the mayor of Burbank, in which he has shot portions of his films, and the mayor of El Segundo, where he spent part of his childhood, the latter of whom will issue a special proclamation declaring it “Quentin Tarantino Day.” He will then participate in a career-retrospective conversation (moderated by yours truly).

“It doesn’t get better than honoring Quentin Tarantino,” BIFF president Anna Maybury said in a statement. “He’s not just a filmmaker. He’s a genre. He’s a rhythm. His work pulses with the very DNA of our town.” Added BIFF advisory board member Tony Muscio, “We’re proud to honor Quentin Tarantino, a walking IMDb and true believer in the power of film — as in, real film, 35mm. His story didn’t start on a red carpet or studio lot; his formative years were spent on the streets of the South Bay, which is why we’re delighted to share in this celebration with the city of El Segundo.”

The city of Burbank, nicknamed the “Media Capital of the World,” is home to over 1,000 media companies including Hollywood giants Warner Bros. Pictures and the Walt Disney Company. Previous BIFF honorees have included Tim Burton and Paul Feig.
