A chant, a crowd, and a surge of devotion, that is the mood Ramayana is carrying right now. Producer Namit Malhotra’s latest reaction reel, stitched together from public showcases across India, has pushed the film’s first look beyond a routine reveal and into full-fledged cultural conversation. In clip after clip, the response lands with the same force, audiences erupting in a single cry of “Rama.”
Malhotra shared the video on Instagram with the caption, “14 cities. 5 temples. A billion hearts. One emotion echoed everywhere. RAMA. Namit Malhotra’s Ramayana. In cinemas globally. Diwali, this year.” While the post frames the rollout around 14 cities and five temples, the larger takeaway is clear: the makers wanted the first audience response to feel collective, devotional, and distinctly national in spirit.
The First Glimpse Has Turned Into A Major Public Moment
The reel followed the unveiling of the film’s first glimpse of Rama, played by Ranbir Kapoor, timed around Hanuman Janmotsav, the Hindu celebration marking the birth of Lord Hanuman. That release strategy gave the first look immediate emotional context, and the newest video shows just how strongly it connected in theatres, public venues, and temple spaces.
From there, the conversation naturally shifts to why this reveal matters. Ramayana is directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios in collaboration with Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, with the story planned as a two-part IMAX event. Part 1 is scheduled for Diwali 2026, while Part 2 is set for Diwali 2027.
The film’s lead line-up has already generated enormous attention, with Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash as Ravana. Sunny Deol plays Hanuman, while Ravie Dubey appears as Lakshman. Behind the camera, the project brings together Prime Focus, DNEG and ReDefine, with Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman collaborating on the music, and Terry Notary and Guy Norris handling action design.
That emphasis on emotional fidelity has also been central to the way the makers are talking about the film. In a statement shared by DNEG, director Nitesh Tiwari said, “Ramayana’s greatness lies in its emotional richness. At its heart, it is not just about good and evil, but about choices, consequences, and the weight of doing what is right. Rama’s journey is deeply human and that is what we have tried to stay true to.”
Ramayana Brings Mythology And IMAX Spectacle Together
What sets Ramayana apart in the current theatrical landscape is its attempt to marry one of India’s most enduring epics with large-format global presentation. The film retells the journey of Rama and the battle against Ravana, with the makers using advanced visual effects and an internationally recognised creative team to mount it for audiences well beyond India.
For now, the newest reaction reel has done something every big-ticket film hopes for months in advance. It has transformed a first look into visible momentum, and made Ramayana feel less like a distant release and more like a shared event already taking shape in public imagination.
