Last week’s big release Dhurandhar has managed to put up impressive numbers over the weekend thanks to exceptional word of mouth. The film is maintaining strong momentum on Monday, signaling a positive trajectory for the coming weeks. In light of this strong performance, trade sources have revealed that the makers and distributors of the Ranveer Singh starrer have decided not to sell tickets at a discounted rate on Tuesday, December 9. This decision places Dhurandhar in an extremely exclusive club alongside Raid 2 and Sitaare Zameen Par.
Since April 2025, it has become standard practice for cinemas to offer discounted tickets at Rs 99, Rs 149, or Rs 199 on Tuesdays. The promotional scheme has worked tremendously well, with house full shows becoming commonplace across theatres every Tuesday. However, in the case of Dhurandhar, an exception is being made based on the film’s remarkable performance and audience demand.
An Exclusive List Of Three
The discounted Tuesday offer began on April 22, 2025, and Kesari Chapter 2 was the first new release to benefit from it. In the seven and a half months since then, only two major releases have avoided the Tuesday offer in their opening week: Raid 2 and Sitaare Zameen Par. Now, Dhurandhar becomes the third film to join this exclusive list.
While Thamma and Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat also did not opt for the offer, those films were released on Tuesday itself to coincide with Diwali festivities, making the situation different. The makers feel that there is tremendous demand to experience the action entertainer on the big screen. As a result, they do not see any compelling reason to reduce prices for a single weekday. They are confident that maintaining blockbuster pricing will not affect the footfall or earnings in any way.
What Other Major Films Did
The decision by Dhurandhar stands out even more when compared to the approach taken by other major releases. Films like Housefull 5, War 2, Saiyaara, Mahavatar Narsimha, Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1, and Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari all decided to sell tickets at a discount every Tuesday throughout their theatrical run.
What makes this even more noteworthy is that films like Saiyaara and Mahavatar Narsimha were overperforming at the box office and yet their makers still opted for the discounted Tuesday offer. This shows just how rare it is for distributors to skip the Tuesday pricing scheme, even when a film is doing exceptionally well.
The distribution team could sense on Sunday itself that Dhurandhar had caught on big time with audiences. Consequently, many cinemas opened advance ticket sales for Tuesday on Sunday itself, maintaining blockbuster rates without any discount. This early move demonstrates the strong confidence that both distributors and exhibitors have in the film’s drawing power.
One Other Exception In Week 5
Recently, the distributors of the miraculous Gujarati blockbuster Laalo: Krishna Sada Sahaayate asked cinemas not to sell tickets for Rs 99 and instead keep the minimum price at Rs 149. However, this decision was made in Week 5 of the film’s run, when it caught on big time through word of mouth. This makes it a different situation from Dhurandhar, Raid 2, and Sitaare Zameen Par, which all avoided the discount in their very first week.
