A newly expanded range of rugged, right-angled power connectors and accessories is now available, offering space-saving designs, EMI shielding, and high current performance—perfect for demanding environments where reliability is critical.

Right Angled Power Connectors

Harwin has expanded its popular Kona series of high-reliability connectors by over 30% with the launch of a new line: the Kona Horizontal. This update introduces a variety of right-angled connectors and shielding accessories, designed to meet growing demands for compact, robust interconnect solutions in extreme environments.

The range includes nine angled connectors available in 2-, 3-, and 4-pin single-in-line (SIL) formats. These are ideal for board-to-board or board-to-panel mounting. It has rear caps for enhanced durability and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding accessories to protect against noise and signal disruption. Single-pin female cable connectors and 90° male versions have also been added to the lineup. Designed for reliability, all connectors maintain an 8.5 mm pitch with 3.65 mm PC tails.

The key features include:

  • Recessed, individually shrouded contacts for enhanced safety
  • Polarised design to prevent incorrect mating
  • Beryllium copper contacts with gold plating for durability and corrosion resistance
  • Supports up to 60 A current per contact

These components are constructed from high-grade PPS (polyphenylene sulfide) thermoplastic, providing them with exceptional resistance to heat and wear, capable of withstanding temperatures ranging from -65°C to +150°C. All products are RoHS compliant. The EMI shields, crafted from lightweight aluminium alloy, add only 2.2 mm to connector height and weigh between 6.8 and 9.4 g. The PPS rear caps weigh 0.50 to 1.05 g and contribute to the overall rugged design.

Ryan Smart, VP of Product at Harwin, highlighted that the Kona series is one of their most advanced offerings, trusted in critical applications where reliability is essential. The new horizontal format helps customers save space and broaden the scope of use across more applications.
