While leaks about the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, expected to launch in January 2026, have been making waves, a fresh leak has surfaced about the Galaxy S27 Ultra, slated for 2027. This latest rumor hints at a bold camera overhaul, suggesting Samsung could redefine zoom capabilities with a single, powerful sensor, potentially streamlining the device’s camera system while elevating its photographic prowess.
Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra’s first camera details out

The tipster Ice Universe, known for reliable Samsung insights, released a Weibo post to speculate that the Galaxy S27 Ultra’s camera setup. According to the leak, Samsung may eliminate the 3x telephoto lens, opting instead for a 200-megapixel Sony-made 1/1.1-inch main camera sensor with a large aperture.
This sensor, larger than the 1/1.3-inch ISOCELL HP2 used in prior Ultra models, is said to excel in light capture, potentially rivalling one-inch sensors in competing flagships.
The tipster claims this new 200-megapixel sensor’s high resolution and large aperture could make the 3x telephoto redundant, delivering superior digital cropping for 3x zoom without compromising image quality. This could result in sharper, more detailed shots, particularly in low-light conditions, and high-quality cropped zoom images that match or surpass dedicated telephoto performance.
While the leak doesn’t detail other camera specs, it suggests Samsung might retain the 50-megapixel 5x periscope lens for robust zoom versatility. If accurate, this shift away from Samsung’s multi-lens strategy signals confidence in Sony’s sensor technology over its in-house ISOCELL lineup. The inclusion of the new Sony sensor suggests that the S27 Ultra could be equipped with a triple camera unit instead of a quad-camera setup.
With the S27 Ultra’s launch likely in 2027, these details remain speculative, but they point to a potential redefinition of smartphone photography.
Much needed battery upgrade
For years, Samsung’s Ultra-branded flagships have stuck with a 5000mAh battery, lagging behind Chinese brands offering 7000mAh batteries in high-end and flagship models. As consumer demands for longer battery life grow, we hope the Galaxy S27 Ultra arrives with a much-needed battery capacity upgrade to stay competitive in 2027. If that happens, it could probably result in the death of the built-in S-Pen to make space for a larger battery.
