The FGC has been holding on throughout Season 2, hoping that Tekken 8 would improve in Season 3 amid ongoing negative feedback and criticism. Now, competitive players are pretty sure that Bandai Namco hasn’t been listening.
When Season 3 was revealed at the Tekken World Tour 2025 Global Finals, it seemed like it might bring massive changes to the fighting game that would answer a lot of the problems Season 2 brought on. In Season 2, gameplay started to feel simplified and overly aggressive, losing a lot of the game’s dynamic and strategic gameplay and changing how a lot of fighters felt. Season 3 promised “refined balance” and “more focus.” The trailer even said it would be a “fresh start.”
Comments full of support came flooding in. The FGC felt this message meant many Season 2 choices would be reverted, restoring the game’s original feel. However, developers corrected this in a blog post following the trailer, telling fans they didn’t mean a “return to earlier Tekken battle systems.” In fact, there would be “comprehensive changes” at all.
Developers then said that they were planning “incremental refinements.” Season 3 was full of small changes instead, nothing abrupt. In response, the FGC claimed they were being lied to by developers who had repeatedly expressed the need for major changes all year. In return, it seemed the devs hadn’t been planning to address any of it.
Tekken 8 Devs Reveal Feedback Portal, But FGC Doesn’t See the Point
As negative backlash to Season 3 continued, developers announced the “Dev Feedback” portal to allow players to report bugs and discuss gameplay issues. Players can submit their concerns via a web form, but this doesn’t guarantee implementation. These issues are reviewed and then shared, including on Discord, to start discussions with other players.
This didn’t really do much to stop the incoming hate.
“This patch is a massive middle finger to every single fan who still supported you after Season 2,” said one frustrated player.
Added another: “You invest in a feedback portal for what? To ignore it the same way y’all did when you made Season 3?”
“What’s the point of feedback portals?” read another reply. “You’ve legit been getting feedback since the betas regarding issues that have not only remained till today but have gotten progressively worse. You’ve gotten feedback on every aspect of the game and yet still refuse to listen? Fix the game.”
As the competitive community continues to voice frustration with Tekken 8, the popular fighting game has seen dwindling interest. The game saw pretty underwhelming registration numbers at Evo Japan, with pros boycotting it and jumping to other titles. Fans have also been losing faith.
While the FGC can be known for blindly hating everything, the state of Tekken 8 is a pretty valid frustration. The gameplay has been dramatically changed to fit a style nobody likes, and all of the changes since have only strayed further from the community’s preferences. I’m truly unsure what the devs plan to do or why they don’t seem willing to implement any feedback, but the ongoing refusal in Season 3 could spell the end for Tekken 8’s popularity in the fighting game scene.
