Sony Interactive Entertainment is set to shut down Bluepoint Games, the US-based studio widely known for its high-quality remakes. The studio will permanently close its doors in March 2026, with around 70 employees expected to be laid off.
The decision was reportedly the result of a recent internal business review. In a
memo sent to staff, Hermen Hulst, CEO of the PlayStation Studio Business Group, pointed to the increasingly challenging state of the industry, citing rising development costs and changing consumer habits as key factors behind the move.
Despite the closure, the company publicly praised the team. A spokesperson highlighted the studio’s passion, creativity, and technical expertise, noting that Bluepoint delivered exceptional experiences to the PlayStation community over the years.
Bluepoint Games: A Legacy Built on Remakes
Bluepoint Games built a strong reputation for preserving and modernizing classic titles. The studio worked on projects such as the remake of Demon’s Souls, which served as an important launch title for the PlayStation 5, as well as the remake of Shadow of the Colossus and Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection. Its consistent technical quality led to its official acquisition by Sony in late 2021.
The Live-Service Shift and a Cancelled Project
However, the studio’s trajectory was affected by PlayStation’s controversial push toward live-service games. In recent years, the team had been working on a multiplayer project set in the universe of God of War, but the project was reportedly cancelled in early 2025. With no new releases announced after that, the studio’s position became increasingly uncertain.

While this talented studio could have been working in other possible remakes or in launching its very first IP, Sony put it to work in another live-service failure. Now, Bluepoint is gone.
