The June 2026 release calendar just got a lot more interesting, and not everyone saw it coming. On March 4, 2026, the makers of Yash’s pan India film Toxic: A Fairy Tale For Grown Ups officially moved their theatrical release to June 4, 2026, a shift that instantly brought the film into the same opening weekend as Varun Dhawan’s Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, scheduled for June 5, 2026.

What has set off chatter in trade circles is not just the proximity of the two dates, but the fact that Varun’s film team allegedly found out about the new lineup only after the announcement went public.

The Latest Update

Box Office Worldwide has exclusively learned that the Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai team was not informed in advance about Toxic moving into the June first week corridor.

As stated in the source report, it is considered industry courtesy for producers to communicate directly when a new release plans to enter a date that has already been locked by another film. The report adds that Varun Dhawan, director David Dhawan, and producer Ramesh Taurani learnt about the revised Toxic release only after Yash shared the update on social media.

When contacted about the situation, producer Ramesh Taurani said, “We’ve not decided anything yet.” For now, there has been no official word on whether Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai will stick to June 5 or consider moving.

Meanwhile, the rescheduling of Toxic: A Fairy Tale For Grown Ups was positioned as a strategic decision. In the same report, a source claimed that distributor Anil Thadani strongly suggested June 4, citing the end of the IPL window and the expectation of reduced uncertainty in key overseas markets by then.

About Toxic And Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai

Toxic: A Fairy Tale For Grown Ups is directed by Geetu Mohandas and is backed by KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations. The film is led by Yash and is mounted as a multilingual global release, with the producers stating in an official announcement that the shift was made due to “current uncertainty, especially in the Middle East,” impacting their aim to reach “the widest possible audience.”

Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai is a Hindi commercial entertainer directed by David Dhawan and produced by Ramesh Taurani under Tips Films. The film stars Varun Dhawan alongside Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde.

Varun Dhawan’s Recent And Upcoming Work

Varun Dhawan’s recent run has spanned theatrical and streaming outings. He was seen in JugJugg Jeeyo (2022) and the creature comedy Bhediya (2022), before making his series debut with Citadel: Honey Bunny on Prime Video (2024). He then returned to the big screen with Baby John (2024).

Looking ahead, Varun’s next major theatrical play is Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai (June 5, 2026), with the David Dhawan reunion positioning him firmly back in the big, family friendly comedy space as the summer box office heats up.
