After three new episodes last year digging deep on the Long Island serial killer, the Titan submersible’s tragic failure, and the Fundamentalist Latter-Day Saints, ABC News’s acclaimed documentary series Truth and Lies is about to return with a new episode dedicated to one of the most scrutinized historic events in American history — the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. On that fateful day in November 1963, President Kennedy was infamously shot and killed in his motorcade by Lee Harvey Oswald, who later suffered a similar fate after a run-in with Dallas nightclub owner Jack Ruby. However, the subsequent investigation and the circumstances of the incident have only further fueled conspiracy theories about who was actually tied to the murder and ultimately responsible for the president’s death. Ahead of the premiere on Monday, November 24, Collider can exclusively share the official trailer, teasing a deep dive into the two figures at the center of the event, the assassination itself, and the evidence that has some doubting the accounts of what happened.

Truth and Lies: Who Killed JFK? describes the historic event as “the first conspiracy theory of the modern age.” The trailer tells how, from the very beginning, there were questions about whether individuals within the highest reaches of the federal government could be involved, a suspicion that hasn’t been quelled by officials’ actions. To this day, despite efforts to declassify and release more information about the assassination, experts who have studied the event still haven’t been satisfied with what evidence has been shared. Through their interviews, the documentary shows how the idea that this detective story is much more than meets the eye has expanded after an investigation that was perceived as rushed and ultimately produced findings that didn’t seem to add up. It looks at the perspective of individuals who have studied Kennedy’s death extensively, from the gunshot angle to the potential parties that would want him dead, and can’t make sense of the explanation given. Through interviews, archival footage, and eyewitness accounts, the episode will address the general feeling that this case is not yet solved after over 60 years.

While the trailer focuses on the conspiracy theories that Kennedy’s assassination has sparked, Who Killed JFK? promises a wider look at the events of November 22. The special will look at the backgrounds of both Kennedy and Oswald and how their differing beliefs ultimately led to their violent collision. It also addresses the questions and answers raised by the new documents released by the government back in March of this year. Among the interviewees providing insight into the event and the conspiracies will be provocative Oscar-winning director, screenwriter, and producer Oliver Stone, who, in addition to helming classics like Platoon and Natural Born Killers, also directed the Kevin Costner flick JFK, which revolved around the idea that Kennedy’s death was not as it seemed.
